Gang Banging

There has been a lot of news coverage in city of Chicago about gang bangers shooting opposite gang affliates over turf, drugs, and money. On May 29 2015, more than 7 people were shot in the Englewood community due to  gang-activity. The world should care about the issue because somebody in your family could die over this issue.                           I  interviewed my cousin Edward Frazier who is a veteran gang member, who has top notch rank in his organization’s hierachy. He is a 32 year-old gang member who has been banging since he was a teenager.   “People gang bang because of a “supreme void” in their life, which they are searching to fill.”  Edward thinks people gang bang because they don’t have a purpose, they have a longing for belonging, and lack mentorship. What is the solution to the gun problem in Chicago?  According to Edward, “The gun problem in Chicago will cease, if there were jobs for young people.”  Edward feel that employment could stop the number of shooting. ,

Another interviewee that share his story with me is Rico, a security guard that currently works at Tilden high school.  According to Rico, “The gang problem is an on-going problem in Chicago that must be stop by the community not City Hall.”  I agree with Rico because when the community is fully vested in the development of the people, gang banging will take on another identity in the form of community activist and not community terrorist.

If this problem is not corrected, the number of shooting in Chicago will continue to rise and create fear amongst  community members . The only way we can solve this problem is if everybody stop killing each other and just work together.
