Why Hate?

On June 1,  2014, the gay marriage law took effect in Illinois. Despite how common it is today, people still have a hard time accepting homosexuals.

Some people think being gay, lesbian or bisexual is an illness, and these types of people need to be cured. Not all people are judged on a daily basis.

For example, at Tilden Career Community Academy, gay boys appear to be judged more harshly than gay girls are. I honestly don’t see why because if you’re gay, you’re just gay, regardless of your gender.

I want to understand why people see gender as a problem when it comes to being gay, so I did two interviews.

My first interview was with Shontion.

Me: What’s your perspective on homosexuals?
Shontion: I don’t like them.
Me: Do you hate all homosexuals?
Shontion: Well, I don’t hate them. I just dislike them, but not all homosexuals. Only gay girls?
Me: Why do you judge them based on their gender?
Shontion: I like gay boys because they’re fun to be around and have a good sense of humor. I don’t like gay girls because I’m scared that they may be attracted to me, and I am not attracted to females, so I might react in a negative way.
Me: Are you homophobic to girls because your afraid you might like them?
Shontion : No, I’m not attracted to females at all. Being gay is a sin, and I don’t want to go to hell. Plus I don’t understand how could you be attracted to your own sex anyway.
Me: Do you think you’ll ever be able to accept gay girls or befriend them?
Shontion: Maybe, because I always think of gay girls being attracted to me and because I know how bad I could react to them. I’d rather just not get to close to them. But if I had a friend that became gay in the midst of our friendship, I would continue to befriend her because she would already be aware of me not being attracted to girls.
Me: Thanks Shontion. Your perspective on things got me listening

My second interview was with Daniel.

Me: What’s your perspective of homosexuals?
Daniel: I don’t have nothing against a boy being gay as long as he doesn’t try to come onto me. I also don’t have nothing against gay women. I actually like women that like women.
Me: Are you homophobic to boys because you might be afraid of being gay?
Daniel : No. I will never be attracted to boys.
Me: Do you think you’ll ever be able to befriend a gay male?
Daniel : I’m not sure. Because from the past, gay people I met, they tried to come on to me.
Me: Well, thank you Daniel for your time

In conclusion, I don’t feel that you should judge people because they’re gay no matter what the gender is. I believe God made all people just the way they are for a reason . I think that if people who are homophobic actually sit down and talk to a homosexual, they would actually like them.

But until then, I will continue to like gays, bisexuals and lesbians for who they are no matter what their gender.

Its good to hear that people are finally starting to open there mind and accept people for who they are. The gay marriage law won’t solve the way people look at gays but its a good place to start.

I agree a lot of people judge on base on there gender. I totally support all of the homosexuals, lesbians, gays and transsexuals. People shouldn’t be in there personal life because its not there business to know. If they have a problem, they should keep there bad comments towards other people because it is rude. It doesn’t make sense why people hate these kind of people, they are normal people and I think it is natural. There’s like no law against them for liking themselves or other same genders. Everyone has there own opinion towards others. Its like they hate them because they don’t know them and they would be scared if they met him or her. I think these people don’t bring any threat to the world, but who go against them, they give a threat to the world because they don’t like it.
